The Jingle Bell Book Tag!

jingle bell book tag (1).png

Hey everyone! I’ve been seeing the Jingle Bell book tag around lately and since it’s so close to Christmas, I thought this would be such a fun tag to do!  The tag was created by Richard @ The Humpo Show, and I found this tag from Deanna @ Dee Reads Things.

Alright, let’s get started!

“All I Want For Christmas Is You…” – What book do you want to see under the Christmas tree?

a map of days

While I’d be happy with any book, I’m super eager to read A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs.  I would be absolutely thrilled to find this one under my tree on Christmas morning!

“Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time” – What book that you’ve read this year did you enjoy the most?

small spaces

How can I possibly pick just one?! I will say, though, my latest 5 star read was Small Spaces by Katherine Arden.  It was definitely one of the best books I read this year!

Elf – What book unleashes your inner child?

NancyDrewCLK

The Nancy Drew series was my favorite growing up.  So, whenever I pick up a Nancy Drew book, it reminds me of my younger years!

“It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” – What book has the most festive look to it?

my true love gave to me.jpg

I think My True Love Gave to Me has such a fun and festive cover and features a little bit of something for everyone!

The Grinch – Your favorite villain.

matilda

The Trunchbull from Matilda is absolutely terrible.  She is one of the first villains that really stuck out to me, and while I don’t have a “favorite” villain, she is definitely the most memorable one to me.

The Holiday – Name your TWO favourite couples.

Anne Shirley & Gilbert Blythe and Nancy Drew & Ned Nickerson for life! 😍😂

What book would you like to give as a present to your followers?

anne of green gables

Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite books (as many of you know, haha), and so I would love for all my followers to read and [hopefully] love this book!

I tag anyone who wants to do this!

This was so much fun to do!

Christmas Bookshelf Decor!

Christmas Bookshelf Decor.png

Hello! Back in October, I shared with you all my autumnal/Halloween decorations for my bookshelves.  I had so much fun with that post, that I decided to do another one for Christmas! Today I’ll be sharing how I decorated my bookshelves for Christmas! 🎄

To start things off, here’s an overview of my main bookcase:

IMG_4751.jpg

I’ve spotlighted a different Christmas book on each shelf that is either on my December TBR or a Christmas favorite.

IMG_4745.jpg

My first two shelves feature A Nancy Drew Christmas and A Vintage Christmas.  They’re both books that are on my TBR this month.  I actually just started reading A Vintage Christmas, and so far it is everything I hoped it would be!  I also decorated my shelf with a tiny Christmas tree that I’ve had since I was a little kid. 😂

IMG_4746.jpg

This shelf also features a pendant banner I crocheted a couple years ago!  It was one of my first crochet projects that actually turned out really quite nice. 🙂

IMG_4748.jpg

I also have a lovely little snowglobe I bought at Target. 🙂  It plays “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and the little cabin inside looks so cozy.  I just love looking at it!

IMG_4750.jpg

My next two shelves feature The Christmas Remedy and Skipping Christmas.  It also features this little wooden Rudolph that I’ve had for forever and a rocking horse ornament from my sister’s 1st Christmas. The string on it is broken, so we put it on the bookcase instead of the tree. 🙂

IMG_4759.jpg

On my other, hanging bookshelf, I lined it with festive ribbon I had laying around.  I also have my little Nativity scene set up there. 😊

IMG_4757.jpg

Next, this isn’t specifically bookish, but I found these adorable Dr. Seuss prints at Hobby Lobby!  I initially wanted all three prints to be from the Grinch (because it’s one of my Christmas favorites), but unfortunately, they were sold out of the rest of the designs.  I’m still quite pleased with the Cat in the Hat ones, though.  I also attempted to decorate them with so pine branches from the three outside!

IMG_4754.jpg

And lastly, I had to include my tree!  This was a new tree this year (I also got it from Hobby Lobby) and I am so in love with it!  It has two different textures of branches to make it look a bit more authentic, and it’s just the perfect size for my tiny room. 🙂

IMG_4756.jpg

And that wraps up my Christmas decor! I also have lights strung around my ceiling, but that was kind of hard to take a picture of, haha! My room is so cozy with all the decorations. I absolutely love snuggling in bed and reading a book after a long day with everything all lit up. 😊🎄♥

I hope you enjoyed looking at some of my Christmas decorations! Do you love decorating like I do? Or are you more minimalist?

Thanks for reading!

Give Thanks for All the Great Reads Book Tag!

give thanks book tag.jpg

Hello!!  So, I totally meant to have this posted on Thanksgiving.  I thought it would be the absolute perfect thing for my blog since it is the day where celebrate and share what we are thankful for.  However, November was an absolute crazy month for me, and I never got the chance to do it.  So, here I am, doing the Give Thanks for All the Great Reads book tag now!  I was tagged by the lovely Abbey from Three Cats and a Girl to do this, and she is also the creator of the tag. 🙂

Rules

  • make sure to tag the creator (because she wants to see everyone’s answers and make her TBR even longer…) Abbey @ Three Cats and a Girl
  • make sure to tag the lovely blogger who tagged you (because they also love lengthening their TBR)
  • Give something that you are thankful for this year at the end of the post!
  • tag as many or as few bloggers as you like!

Alright, let’s get started!

You Turkey! ~ a book that made you laugh

the princess diaires

Any book my Meg Cabot makes me laugh!  The Princess Diaries series is especially funny!

I’m Stuffed ~ a book that completely satisfied you

dark halo

Dark Halo by Shannon Dittemore was such a satisfying ending to the Angel Eyes series!  I absolutely loved it.

Pumpkin Pie ~ the book you are looking forward to reading next

a vintage christmas.jpg

I’m really looking forward to reading A Vintage Christmas!  It’s full of short stories and poems about Christmas by classic authors like LM Montgomery, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, and more!  I think this book will be so perfect for me. 🙂

Go Team! ~ a book where you found yourself really cheering for a certain character

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

I have to go with Evelyn Hugo from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for this one.  Evelyn was by no means perfect, but I loved her so much and I just only wanted the best for her!

Macy’s Day Parade ~ a book that’s always there waiting on the bookshelf to be read and you know you’ll get to it eventually

pride and prejudice

The first book that came to mind for this one is Pride and Prejudice.  I’ve been meaning to read this book for so long now, but for one reason or another I keep putting it off.  It is one of my goals for 2019 to finally read this one!

Traditions ~ a book you could/do reread every year because it’s so dang good

anne of green gables

Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery! It is one of my favorite books of all time, and I never get tired of it.  It’s been a couple years since I’ve read it last, so this is another one I hope to read in 2019!

I’m Thankful For ~ a book that really helped you in life

NancyDrewCLK

I have to go with the classic Nancy Drew series.  Growing up, those books shaped me so much.  As someone who was shy and kind of nervous, Nancy always inspired me to be the brave, independent, and the best me possible.  She was who I strived to be like when I was little (Okay, and still now 😂)!

I tag everyone who is reading this!

Thanks again, so much, for tagging me Abbey!  I really loved doing this tag and thinking about all the books I’m thankful for. This was such a perfect book tag to do around this time of year when we are remembering, connecting with friends and family, and feeling extra thankful. ♥

Thanks for reading!

BOWD2

Witch
A Magical Character or Book.

miss peregrine

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is such a magical and enchanting book.  It’s so mysterious with so many unique and magical characters.

Werewolf
The Perfect Book to Read at Night.

the dreadful tale of prosper redding

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding is such a fun book to read for Halloween.  It’s spooky and mysterious, but not too spooky, which makes it a perfect book to read at night, because I’m a scaredy cat and don’t want to read something super scary before bed!

Frankenstein
A Book that Truly Shocked You.

genuine fraud

This book was so twisty!  Genuine Fraud really took me by surprise and didn’t go at all how I expected.

The Devil
A Dark, Evil Character.

Black

The villain in Black really encompasses the whole “dark, evil character” for this one!

Grim Reaper
A Character that Should Never Have Died.

allegiant

If you’ve read this book, I’m sure you’ll agree.  That’s all I’m going to say.

Zombie
A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.

the princess diaires

Pretty much every single Meg Cabot book leaves me “hungry” for more.  She is one of my favorite authors, and all her books are just so enjoyable and utterly readable!

Gargoyle
A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.

anne of green gables

I love Anne Shirley with my entire bookish heart and soul.  She is my favorite and I would root for her and protect her always.

Vampire
A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.

breakfast at tiffany's

I just did not care for Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  The writing style was not for me, and I felt so disconnected the entire time I read it.

Ghost
A Book that Still Haunts You.

On Pointe

On Pointe is a book that definitely haunts me, but in the best way possible.  This book really touched me.  Even though it’s been quite a few years since I’ve read it, it’s still one that I think about often.

Demon
A Book that Really Scared You.

the diviners

I know I’ve shared my story about hearing whistling in the night while reading The Diviners, but y’all, that freaked me out so much!! Hearing some random person whistling down the street at almost midnight, while the bad guy is in the book is doing the same does not make a good combo.  Not only that, but this book is just overall so creepy.

Skeleton
A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.

unraveling

I don’t even know why, but the main character, Janelle, just rubbed me the wrong way.  Plus, the whole time I read this book, all I could think about was Jenelle from Teen Mom 2. 😂

Mummy
A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.

the secret of the old clock.jpg

Nancy Drew is my original favorite.  This series was the first one that I actually really fangirled with, and it will forever be my favorite.  So really, I would preserve any of the classic Nancy Drew books for all time so she would always be remembered!

Creepy Doll
A Cover too Scary to Look At.

in a dark dark room.jpg

Okay, yes, this cover isn’t too scary to look at, but as a kid I sure thought it was!  Plus, who wasn’t afraid of The Green Ribbon story in this book?!  Talk about traumatizing!

The Monster Mash
It’s Fun to Be with Friends on Halloween!

How Well Does Goodreads Know Me?

how well does goodreads know me.png

Hello!  I got the idea for today’s post from Kristin at Kristin Kraves Books, and it was originally started by Caitlin from Caitstiel’s Book World.  I loved reading both of their posts, so I just had to do it, too!  Basically, I am going to go through my Goodreads book recommendations, and decide whether or not I would read the books they’re recommending to me.

Today, I’m going to pick the first ten recommendations from my “read” shelf:

goodreads recommends read

1. Streams in the Desert

Because I read My Utmost for His Highest Oswald Chambers

Streams in the Desert is a devotional book.  I could see myself reading it in the future, but I’m pretty undecided at this point.

2. Radical Together

Because I read Forgotten God by Francis Chan

David Platt is a Christian speaker and author.  I’ve done some of his Bible studies with my church before.  While he’s not one of my favorites, I could still see myself reading this book.

3. Sir Kendrick and the Castle of Bel Lione

Because I read Haunted Waters by Jerry B. Jenkins

I wouldn’t read Sir Kendrick and the Castle of Bel Lione.  I’m not very into knights, and so this book just doesn’t sound like something I would be interested in.

4. Unstoppable

Because I read Through the Eyes of a Lion by Levi Lusko

Christine Caine is another Christian author and speaker.  While I haven’t read any of her books, I’ve heard really good things about her, and would definitely consider reading this book.

5. Bad Kitty

Because I Read several different books by Meg Cabot and Heist Society by Ally Carter

When I first saw the cover for Bad Kitty, I was sure I probably wouldn’t be interested.  When I read the synopsis though, I actually really think it’ll be something I’m interested in!  I love sassy characters and mysteries, and this book looks like it has both.  I added this one to my TBR shelf!

goodreads recommends read 2.png

6. A Long Way from Chicago

Because I read Holes by Louis Sachar and The Giver by Lois Lowry

I don’t know if I’ll read this book anytime soon, but it does look like something I might pick up if I were looking for a short and easy read.  I think A Long Way from Chicago would have been a book I would have really liked when I was younger, though!  Because of that, I did add it to my TBR shelf, just so I can remember it, if I ever do decide to give it a try.

7. Winnie-the-Pooh

Because I read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

I definitely want to read Winnie-the-Pooh someday!  It’s one of those childhood classics I never read, and feel like I’ve missed out on.  I have so many fond memories of watching the original cartoons with my grandparents when I was little.  We were never allowed to watch the windy day episode when my cousin was there though, because it scared him too much…That used to irritate 5 year old me so much! haha 🙂  So, yes, this is a recommendation I completely agree with!

8. The Monstrumologist

Because I read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs

I actually tried reading this book once, but I couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters because it was just too gruesome for me.  I wanted to like it, but it was just too much.

9. So Not Happening

Because I read the Christy Miller Collection, Vol 1. by Robin Jones Gunn and Heist Society by Ally Carter

I actually bought So Not Happening at a library book sale!  I haven’t read it yet, but I do plan on it!  So, this recommendation works.

10. Kinderen van Moeder Aarde

Because I read Matilda by Roald Dahl

This book is in another language – I believe Dutch – and unfortunately, I only speak English.  So, I’m going to have to pass on this book, lol.  From what I gather, based on the English reviews, it’s a dystopian novel where society is ruled only by women because men messed the world up.  If there was an English translation, I might give this book a chance, though!

This was so much fun to do!! I discovered a few new books I might like to read, too.  I definitely plan on doing a post like this again, with some of my other Goodreads bookshelves.

Thanks so much for reading!

This or That Book Tag!

this or that book tag.png

Hey everyone! Recently, I was tagged by Kris over at Boston Book Reader to do the This or That book tag! Thank you so much for tagging me, Kris!!

Alright, here we go:

Audiobook OR Text book?

While I do enjoy some audiobooks, I don’t listen to very many, so I definitely have to go with text books!

Paperback OR Hardback?

I honestly love both! I’ll go with hardback though, because they are more aesthetically pleasing on my bookshelves.

Fiction OR Non-fiction?

I have to go with fiction.  While I appreciate non-fiction, it’s just not typically a genre that I read very often.

Bookshop OR Online?

Even though I definitely appreciate the convenience of online shopping, nothing beats the feeling of going to an actual bookstore, browsing the shelves for hours, and just appreciating that chill vibe that all bookstores seem to have.

Standalone OR Trilogy?

This one really just depends on my mood!  Sometimes I love trilogies and other times I’m content with just one book.  I guess I’ll go with standalone, though, because I’m so terrible at finishing series sometimes!

Heavy & Long OR Short & Sweet?

Again, this one just depends on my mood!  Sometimes the longer the book the better, and other times I’m super content with novella.

Reading somewhere Cozy OR in the Sun?

Please, can I pick both?!  There’s nothing like reading in the sunshine on a warm, summer day with an icy, cold drink to help you from getting too hot.  However, there’s also nothing like reading while being wrapped up, all cozy in your bed with all the softest blankets on, with little twinkle lights on, too.

Hot Chocolate OR Coffee?

Now, this is an easy choice!  I definitely have to go with hot chocolate!  I do not like coffee at all, but I absolutely love hot chocolate, so this one was a no-brainer. 🙂

This was such a fun tag! Thanks again for tagging me, Kris!

If you’re reading this, I tag YOU!

Thanks for reading!

The Goodreads Book Tag!

goodreads book tag (2).png

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to be doing The Goodreads Book Tag!  I’ve seen this tag floating around on so many different blogs, and it always looks like so much fun, so I’ve finally decided to do it!

What Was the Last Book You Marked as Read?

the coronation

The Coronation by Livy Jarmusch!  This was the last full book I completed for the #InLoveAThon, and I really enjoyed this one.  I’m looking forward to starting its sequel, The Rebellion, very soon!!

What are You Currently Reading?

to all the boys i've loved before.jpg

I’m a little over halfway done, and I’m really enjoying To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han! It really is just as good as everyone says it is!!

What was the Last Book You Marked as ‘To Read’?

the life she was given.jpg

The last book I marked as ‘To Read’ on Goodreads was The Life She Was Given by Ellen Marie Wiseman.  I haven’t heard much about this book, but I saw it at Target the other day, and thought it looked interesting!

Do You Use the Star Rating System?

Absolutely!  It helps me keep track of how I felt about specific books.  I’m still waiting for those half stars though…

Are You Doing the 2018 Reading Challenge?

I am! Although, I’ve lowered the number of books I want to read to 35, as opposed to my usual 50-55, because I don’t want the pressure.  I’ve already talked about this in my Reading and Blogging Goals of 2018 post, but I want to focus more on the number of pages read, as opposed to the number of books.  Lately, I’ve found myself skipping larger books, so I could read through more smaller books and I’ve decided I don’t want to do that.  I want to read what I want to read, without worrying too much if I’m on track or not. 🙂

Do You have a Wishlist?

Doesn’t everyone on Goodreads??  I currently have 132 books on my ‘to read’ shelf.  There’s just so many books and so little time!

Who are Your Favorite Authors?

I have so many!! Just a few of my favorite authors include Meg Cabot, LM Montgomery, Morgan Matson, Sarah Dessen, and Ransom Riggs, just to name a few!

Have You Joined any Groups?

I have joined a few groups, but I don’t actually interact too much, and most of them are dead groups anyway.  If you have any recommendations for some fun and active groups, please share them with me!

How Many Goodreads Shelves Do You Have?

I have nine shelves, which isn’t too many.  I always say I’m going to get super organized, and make a bunch of shelves sorting each book into different categories, but I’m lazy and haven’t done that yet. 😜

This was such a fun tag to do! I tag anyone who wants to do this one!!

Thank you so much for reading!
