A Bookworm’s Pool Day Essentials

A Bookworm's.png

Hello and welcome back to day four for me as host for Bookending Summer 2019.  Unfortunately, today’s my last day hosting.  That being said, Jeimy @ A Novel Idea is taking over the fun tomorrow! Also, I still plan on participating in some of the other hosts’ prompts throughout July, so really, the fun is just beginning. 🎉

Today’s prompt is all about a bookworm’s pool day essentials.  Who doesn’t love a nice, relaxing day at the pool?  In order to get that perfect day, though, there’s a few essential items we all need to bring!  Here’s mine:

April Wrap-Up!

monthly wrapup

Hi friends! Today I’m back with my April wrap-up, and in true Theresa fashion, we’re already halfway through May.  Will I ever post a wrap-up on time? Who knows! Stay tuned…😂

As you all can probably guess from my lack of blog posts last month, I didn’t have a great reading month either.  I ended up only reading two books.  I realize that’s still two books to celebrate, but I was hoping for more.  Regardless, I really enjoyed both of the books I read last month!

March Wrap-Up!

monthly wrapup

Hello! Today I’m back with another extremely late wrap-up.  Yup, that’s not a typo, it may be nearly May, but I’m finally sharing my March wrap-up. 🙈  For the past few months, I feel like I’ve been in this weird reading and blogging slump, where I want to read and blog and then I just do other things instead.  I’m ready to push through that, though, so hopefully the rest of the year will be better.

In March I read three books.

This month I only had one Waiting on Wednesday to share with you guys:

Worlds beneath blog tour

I was also a part of the Worlds Beneath Blog Tour in July!

Overall, it was a bit of a quieter blogging month, but I still managed to post quite a bit and keep up a little bit of a posting schedule, and so, I am content.  Also, compared to last July’s stats, I received over double the amount of views and visitors and over three times the amount of likes and comments. So, I am celebrating how far The Calico Books has come since last year!

Here’s to a really great August!

May Wrap-Up!

monthly wrapup

I feel like I said this every month, but can you even believe how fast this year is flying by?!  We’re already halfway through, and I’m kind of freaking out about that.  On the plus side, the summer months are finally here, and with them they bring more reading time, no school, and SUNSHINE!  Needless to say, I’m just a little excited. 😉  Overall, I had an okay reading and blogging month for May.  The first half of the month, I was so busy with finals and dance that I barely blogged or read at all.  Once everything settled down though, I was able to get a bit more on track.  I ended up reading three books in the month of May, which, given my circumstances, isn’t terrible, but I was hoping for at least four.

– Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

– Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

– My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Emergency Contact was filled with great characters, real life topics, and cute banter.  It’s a perfect, mature*, YA novel that I think a lot of people have been looking for!

*not in the explicit way, haha.  The characters are older – in their late teens and early 20’s.

The Rebellion by Livy Jarmusch \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

The Ugly Teapot by Fred Holmes \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff \\ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So, I bought quite a lot of books in the month of May!  First, I went to two different library book sales, and so, if you’ve followed me for a while, you know I go completely overboard at those sales, and bought wayyy too many books.  If you’re interested in seeing which books I got, I currently have that book haul as a story highlight on my Instagram.  You can check that out here!

Then, I received a copy of How to Be a Perfect Christian by the satire website, The Babylon Bee, from WaterBrook & Multnomah as a thank you gift for signing up to be a member of their book launch teams.  A huge thank you to them! It was such a pleasant and unexpected surprise, and I can’t wait to read it!

IMG_1699.jpgLastly, I was looking through the bargain books at Books-a-Million, which is a very dangerous place to be, and found a hardcover copy of The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer for only $6! I’m not embarrassed to admit that I was a bit of a Twi-hard back in the day (maybe I still am a little, lol), and I also loved The Host.  So, I’m excited to give this one a try and see what I think!

Like I said earlier, the first half of May was quite slow.  Despite that, May still managed to feature some exciting posts!

Currently Reading Book Tag!

currently reading book tag

Hello! Today, I’m going to be doing the Currently Reading Book Tag!  It was started by Charly Reynhorse, and I know that I was tagged by someone, but unfortunately, where I write down the blog tags I’m tagged in/plan to do, I included the wrong link.  So, if you are the one who tagged me to do this, thank you so much!!

Alright, let’s get started!

1. How many books do you usually read at once?

I usually read 1-2 books, but I there are times when I’ll read up to 3-4 books.  Any more than that though, and I can’t handle it, and usually end up going into a reading slump because I have so many books I’m going back and forth between I feel like I’m not making adequate progress in any of them.

2. If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch to reading the other book (do you read a certain amount of pages in each?)

Honestly, I just usually go with what I feel like.  A lot of times, when I read multiple books, I’m either reading on a different format (physical or ebook), or I’m reading books from very different genres (like a classic and a YA dystopian).  So, I’ll usually just read whichever one I’m feeling at the moment, and switch when I feel like.

3. Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re part way through a book?

The only time I would do this would be if I lost my current bookmark.

4. Where do you keep the book you’re currently reading?

Either on the end of my bookcase in my room, or if it fits, I have a small space on my bed where the mattress doesn’t meet the bed frame, and it usually fits my books perfectly.

5. What time of day do you spend the most time reading?

I get most of my reading done in the evening and at night before I go to bed.  However, I really enjoy reading first thing in the morning when I wake up, too.  But I also love my sleep, so I can only do that on days where I actually manage to wake up early.

6. How long do you typically read for in one go?

It really just depends!  Sometimes I only feel like reading for 10 minutes, and other times I’ll read for 3 hours straight.

7. Do you read hard covers with the dust jacket on or off?

Of course, I read with them off!  One, I like to take them off so they stay pretty and neat.  Two, reading with a dust jacket on is just plain difficult because it constantly tries to slip off while I’m reading with it.

8. Which position do you mainly use to read?

I’m constantly readjusting, so I wouldn’t say I have one main position.  Just, whatever’s comfortable at the time!

9. Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?

Yes!  You never know when you’ll be able to squeeze in a few minutes of reading time.

10. How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on Goodreads?

Whenever I think of it.  I always add my book to Goodreads, and mark when I’ve read it.  However, updating my progress in the middle of reading a book really just depends.  Sometimes I never do, sometimes I do a whole bunch of times!

11. Who would you like to tag?

I’ve gained quite a few lovely new followers lately, so I’m going to tag some of my most recents!

Merv Reads

Pretty Purple Polka Dots

Shuffle Bookbox

The Bibliophile Empress

Hammock of Books

And, of course, anyone else who wants to do this, I would love to see your answers!!
