Hey everyone! I know I’m a few days late, but today I’m going to be sharing some of the books I’m hoping to read this month!  Last month, I didn’t finish as many books as I would have hoped, so I have some pretty high hopes for February.  I don’t always set monthly TBR’s, but I’ve decided to try it out for a while and see how it goes. 🙂

Waitingonwednesday

Waiting on Wednesday/Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly feature, started by Breaking the Spine and continued by Wishful Endings, that puts the spotlight on upcoming releases!

This week’s pick is:

Romanov

RELEASING MAY 7TH, 2019

romanov.jpgSYNOPSIS

From the author of Fawkes comes a magical take on the story of Anastasia Romanov.

The history books say I died.

They don’t know the half of it.

Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them . . . and he’s hunted Romanov before.

Nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her . . .

That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.

Romanov sounds like such an intriguing novel!!  I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Nadine Brandes’ other book, Fawkes, and so I’m sure this one will be just as wonderful as well.  I also follow her on Twitter, and she is just so sweet and fun, it really makes me want to read her books more.  I’ve always been super intrigued by Anastasia, and I have no doubt that this book will be intriguing as well.  Also, look at that gorgeous cover! 😍

December TBR.png

Hello everyone!  I am so excited for the books I plan on reading this month! Christmas is my favorite time of year, and so December is going to be filled with holiday-themed reads.  I’ve also decided to participate in the ‘TisTheSeasonAthon – which starts today, December 3rd, and runs through the 9th – and the ClassicsAThon, which runs through the entire month of December.  Because everything was starting all around the same time, I decided to create one big TBR post!

Sbooktober Readathon TBR!

Sbooktober Readathon TBR.png

Hello!  In honor of Blogtober and Blogoween, today I’m sharing with you all my TBR for the second readathon I’m participating in this month!

The Sbooktober Readathon started today, October 21st and goes through October 27th!  You can click here to get all the details!

I’ve decided to join the Lycans team, led by Vanessa @ Paper Faerie! 🐺🌕

Alright, here’s the challenges and the books I’ve chosen:

 Join Sbooktober

Read a Halloween themed book of your choice (thriller, supernatural, gothic, etc)

IMG_3761.jpg

What better book to start things off with than Hocus Pocus?! It just screams Halloween!

Clan Up

Pick a clan and read a book featuring your mascot (Corpse brides can read a book involving any type of bride, and vampire bats can a read a book with vampires or bats).

IMG_3763.jpg

I bought this book a couple years ago, and I still haven’t gotten around to reading it.  Being that it involves werewolves, I thought now would be the perfect time to read Unleashed!

Enter the Haunted House

Read a book that includes a haunted house.

Perform an Incantation

Read a short story or poetry collection.

IMG_3760.jpg

I’m combining these next two challenges, and reading the short story, The Grownup by Gillian Flynn.  I’ll be honest, I’m kind of scared to read Gillian Flynn’s books, so I’m starting with a short story to get a feel for her writing style!

Face Your Fears

Read a book based on something you are, or have been, afraid of.

IMG_3767.jpg

The Fall of Candy Corn will be a reread for me, but it’s one I remember enjoying so much!  This series is about a girl who works at a theme park, and just like most theme parks, this one goes all out for Halloween and features tons of haunted houses and scary mazes.  I am so afraid of jump scares, like they do in theme parks!

🐺Lycan Challenges🌕

Howl At The Moon

Read a book at nighttime.

IMG_3768.jpg

Undead Girl Gang is actually Sbooktober’s group book, and I decided it would work really perfectly for this challenge!

Pack Instinct

Read a book you feel like everyone else has read and you don’t want to miss out on.

IMG_3770.jpg

Everyone I know who has read A Discovery of Witches loves it so much! I really do feel like I’ve been missing out.  Hopefully I’ll love this one just as much as everyone else seems to!

And there you have it! That’s my [overly ambitious] TBR for this week!  While I won’t be able to read them all, I’m really looking forward to reading a lot and trying to get to as many as I can. 🙂

Let me know, are you participating in the Sbooktober Readathon?

Thanks for reading!

A MAP OF DAYS

RELEASING OCTOBER 2nd, 2018

a map of days

Synopsis

The #1 bestselling series returns with a thrilling new story arc set in America!

Vintage photographs reveal the never-before-seen world of peculiar America with a stunning addition—full-color images.

Having defeated the monstrous threat that nearly destroyed the peculiar world, Jacob Portman is back where his story began, in Florida. Except now Miss Peregrine, Emma, and their peculiar friends are with him, and doing their best to blend in. But carefree days of beach visits and normalling lessons are soon interrupted by a discovery—a subterranean bunker that belonged to Jacob’s grandfather, Abe.

Clues to Abe’s double-life as a peculiar operative start to emerge, secrets long hidden in plain sight. And Jacob begins to learn about the dangerous legacy he has inherited—truths that were part of him long before he walked into Miss Peregrine’s time loop.

Now, the stakes are higher than ever as Jacob and his friends are thrust into the untamed landscape of American peculiardom—a world with few ymbrynes, or rules—that none of them understand. New wonders, and dangers, await in this brilliant next chapter for Miss Peregrine’s peculiar children. Their story is again illustrated throughout by haunting vintage photographs, but with a striking addition for this all-new, multi-era American adventure—full color.

Y’all, I am so excited for this book!!  The Miss Peregrine series is one of my absolute favorites.  I think this series is just so unique and well-written.  So, when I found out about A Map of Days, I was so thrilled.  I can’t wait to see where Ransom Riggs takes this series and it’s characters next!

Imposters

RELEASING SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2018

imposters.jpg

Synopsis

Set in the Uglies future, a decade after Tally’s revolution has changed everything. As she once said, “Freedom has a way of destroying things.” Impostors is about dealing with the consequences of ending the Pretty Regime. The story starts in a city where things did not work out well. Bad people are in charge. But we also will travel to other cities where things aren’t all bad. This new series is about all the expressions of human nature that popped up after more than ten years of social upheaval.

Tally is a character in the world. But she’s not a point-of-view character (in the first book, anyway). She’s more like a famous person in the background.

The new installment follows a girl named Frey, who’s been raised from birth to pretend to be someone else. She’s a body double. A bodyguard. An impostor! It’s about the roles that our parents and society force upon us, and how we fight to create our own identities, to invent selves that really belongs to us.

Y’all I am SO excited for this book!  I love the Uglies series so much.  It was one of the first dystopians I ever read, I and just absolutely fell in love with the world and its characters in this series.  I’m so excited to meet Frey, and see what has been going on in this world since we last saw Tally!
