Romanov

RELEASING MAY 7TH, 2019

romanov.jpgSYNOPSIS

From the author of Fawkes comes a magical take on the story of Anastasia Romanov.

The history books say I died.

They don’t know the half of it.

Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them . . . and he’s hunted Romanov before.

Nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her . . .

That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.

Romanov sounds like such an intriguing novel!!  I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Nadine Brandes’ other book, Fawkes, and so I’m sure this one will be just as wonderful as well.  I also follow her on Twitter, and she is just so sweet and fun, it really makes me want to read her books more.  I’ve always been super intrigued by Anastasia, and I have no doubt that this book will be intriguing as well.  Also, look at that gorgeous cover! 😍

Two Can Keep a Secret

RELEASING JANUARY 8TH, 2019

two can keep a secret.jpgSynopsis

The New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying, Karen M. McManus, is back with an all-new, page-turning mystery perfect for fans of Riverdale!

Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone’s declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she’s in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous–and most people aren’t good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it’s safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

I love a good mystery novel, and Two Can Keep a Secret sounds so promising!!  The synopsis has me so intrigued.  I’ve heard really great things about One of Us is Lying (it’s actually on my TBR, too), and so I have high hopes for this book!

A Thousand Perfect Notes

RELEASING JUNE 7TH, 2018

a thousand perfect notes.jpgSynopsis

An emotionally charged story of music, abuse and, ultimately, hope.

Beck hates his life. He hates his violent mother. He hates his home. Most of all, he hates the piano that his mother forces him to play hour after hour, day after day. He will never play as she did before illness ended her career and left her bitter and broken. But Beck is too scared to stand up to his mother, and tell her his true passion, which is composing his own music – because the least suggestion of rebellion on his part ends in violence.

When Beck meets August, a girl full of life, energy and laughter, love begins to awaken within him and he glimpses a way to escape his painful existence. But dare he reach for it?

I’ve been following Cait’s, AKA Paper Furry, blog and Twitter for a couple years now.  She’s just so sweet and funny!  When I found out she was releasing a book, I was genuinely so happy for, and then when I read the synopsis, I just knew I HAD to read it!  This book looks like it’s going to break my heart, and I am so ready for it! Plus, the cover is just so gorgeous.  Also, I’m so excited, because it comes out tomorrow. I won’t have to wait much longer to read it now!

Stay Sweet

RELEASING APRIL 24TH, 2018!

stay sweet.jpgSynopsis

A summer read about first love, feminism, and ice cream.

Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends. Seventeen-year-old Amelia and her best friend Cate have worked at the stand every summer for the past three years, and Amelia is “Head Girl” at the stand this summer. When Molly passes away before Amelia even has her first day in charge, Amelia isn’t sure that the stand can go on. That is, until Molly’s grandnephew Grady arrives and asks Amelia to stay on to help continue the business…but Grady’s got some changes in mind…

I haven’t read any of Siobhan Vivian’s other books yet, but I cannot wait to read this one!  From the cover to the synopsis, everything about Stay Sweet sounds like such a fun, summer-y contemporary read.  I can already see me reading this book outside in the sunshine with something sweet (preferably an ice cream, of course)!

Come from Away

Releasing April 24th, 2018!

come from away.jpg

Synopsis

From the bestselling author of Tides of Honour and Promises to Keep comes a poignant novel about a young couple caught on opposite sides of the Second World War.

In the fall of 1939, Grace Baker’s three brothers, sharp and proud in their uniforms, board Canadian ships headed for a faraway war. Grace stays behind, tending to the homefront and the general store that helps keep her small Nova Scotian community running. The war, everyone says, will be over before it starts. But three years later, the fighting rages on and rumours swirl about “wolf packs” of German U-Boats lurking in the deep waters along the shores of East Jeddore, a stone’s throw from Grace’s window. As the harsh realities of war come closer to home, Grace buries herself in her work at the store.

Then, one day, a handsome stranger ventures into the store. He claims to be a trapper come from away, and as Grace gets to know him, she becomes enamoured by his gentle smile and thoughtful ways. But after a several weeks, she discovers that Rudi, her mysterious visitor, is not the lonely outsider he appears to be, but someone else entirely—someone not to be trusted. When a shocking truth about her family forces Grace to question everything she has so strongly believed, she realizes that she and Rudi have more in common than she had thought. And if Grace is to have a chance at love, she must not only choose a side, but take a stand.

Come from Away is a mesmerizing story of love, shifting allegiances, and second chances, set against the tumultuous years of the Second World War.

Come from Away sounds like it’s going to be such a good book!  I’ve seen a few people mention this one on Instagram, and it’s been nothing but good things.  This book sounds like it’s going to be such a good love story, and I’m really looking forward to reading this one!

Emergency Contact

Releasing March 27th, 2018!

emergency contact.jpgSynopsis

For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she somehow managed to land a boyfriend, he doesn’t actually know anything about her. When Penny heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind.

Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he’s a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him.

When Sam and Penny cross paths it’s less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams without the humiliating weirdness of having to see each other.

I haven’t heard a whole lot about Emergency Contact, but I’ve been hearing more and more about it lately, and I’m intrigued!  This book sounds like it’s going to have that eccentric, quirky, indie movie-esque vibe.  Plus, the characters are in college, which I really appreciate, because there just are not enough books that feature characters in that phase of life.  I can’t wait to give this book a try!
